Imagine a world where every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education and the opportunity to fulfill their potential. We're striving to make this a reality and invite you to join us on this meaningful journey.
Deonar Dumping Ground in Govandi is the largest garbage dumping ground in Asia. It is home to thousands of migrants who live in very bad conditions, lacking even the most basic amenities like food, proper clothing and shelter. About 3000 children live in and around the dumping ground today. Most of them are rag pickers supporting their family’s meager income. Child Labor is a deep-rooted socioeconomic problem here.
Karunya Trust an NGO through its Gyansaathi program is imparting education to these rag-picking communities in Govandi and inculcating the importance of good health and hygiene in their lives. Gyansaathi is offering education to these poor children in an effort to uplift their lives.
All the children who have joined the program have re-integrated into mainstream education or NIOS within 6 months of joining the program. Gyansaathi have 4 operating centers and have enrolled 800 children since the past 6 years. Today, many children who have not even known Alphabets when they joined the Gyasaathi program have passed their SSC examination and pursuing their higher studies.
