Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024

Treating all segments of society as equals and building self-reliance is crucial to build a just society. UHRC’s efforts with basti women’s and children’s groups are steps directed at a more fair and equitable society. To understand myself how Urban Health Resource Centre’s social facilitators gently strengthen, deepen confidence & build self-reliance through knowledge, negotiation and related skills (which are non-perishable competencies) of women's and children’s groups is eye opening. This demonstrates UHRC's human foundation building approach among 450,000 slum/vulnerable populations in Indore & Agra rather than distributing any items. It is invigorating to see the spirited efforts of children's group members of Agra & Indore to enhance awareness about their cause through running Mumbai Marathon. May Nature give their efforts more success and may they help many other children fulfil hopes and aspirations. During interactions with members of basti women’s and children’s groups in in Urban Health Resource Centre’s (UHRC) program in Indore and Agra I have observed the fiery sprit in their eyes and heard it in their voice and through efforts they narrated. It has been enthusing to see with my own eyes and listen with my ears the confidence and collective strength of basti women's groups and children's groups in Agra & Indore. They speak with confidence and clarity about what efforts they make and to what extent they are successful in their efforts and where they are not.

About Me
I am an 89 yr old retired Professor of Sociology, engaged with a few social work organisations. During interactions with basti women’s and children’s groups in UHRC’s Agra and Indore program the determination and zeal observed is inspiring. The warmth with which basti families welcome visitors like me in their small houses shows their inner happiness and self-pride. I am campaigning to raise funds for sustaining Urban Health Resource Centre’s efforts with women, children and of their families in bastis by helping them to awaken their own inner power. I hope those who read this will support these crucial social efforts.
