Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024

Losing my father at an early age, my mother was unable to care for me and my brother and had to give us up for adoption. Growing up in institutional care marked my existence, but it was a life without the warmth of a family. As I turned 18, the shelter that had been my home could no longer provide refuge, leaving me homeless. It was then that Urja stepped into my life, a beacon of hope in a world that seemed to have turned its back on me. At Urja, I have come to realise that personal growth is not a linear journey. Despite the social barriers, I have the right to feel safe, have my fundamental needs met, and live up to my fullest physical and emotional capacity. Engaging in sports thus became a means for me to balance my physical and emotional needs. At my previous Child care institute I had glimpsed the beauty of Mallakhamba and Yoga, but societal and economic barriers kept them beyond my reach. Urja changed that narrative. Here, I not only received professional training in Yoga and Mallakhamba but also found a calling. Today, I proudly stand as a Yoga instructor, with dreams of becoming a Gym trainer, driven by the opportunities Urja unfolded before me. Participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon is more than a race; it's a personal challenge and a collective motivation. It symbolizes my aspiration to broaden my horizons, to run not just for myself but for a cause larger than any individual. I run to shed light on the crucial issue of women's safety, a topic that demands urgent attention in our society. Seeking the support of generous souls like you, the runners of Urja, including myself, aim to shatter gender stereotypes and claim our space in the sports arena. Your support is not just a donation; it's a lifeline for dreams and aspirations, a vote of confidence that propels us forward. Together, let's break barriers, challenge norms, and create a world where everyone, regardless of their past, can run freely towards a brighter future.
