Tree Plantation Drive on World Environment Day, 2013
The tree plantation activity for World Environment Day was carried out in collaboration with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) at the Wet Waste Management Centre and Yari Road Association Public Garden in Andheri, West, in which 25 employees from DNV participated.
PROJECT DETAILS
The activity commenced with an introductory tour of the Wet Waste Management Center emphasizing on the process of converting wet waste into manure. United Way of Mumbai has previously collaborated with the Municipal Ward office and a local NGO partner, Centre for Sustainable Development, to run a waste management center in the ward. The waste management center treats
Nirmalya (holy waste which consists of flower garlands, fruits, coconuts, spices, honey and camphor offered to Ganesha), converting this biodegradable substance into manure.
IMPACT
After the tour, the volunteers conducted a tree plantation drive and planted 15 trees from the Indian species.
