IMPACT STORIES

Blood Donation Camp, 2018

UWM organised a Blood Donation Camp in coordination with Think Foundation, an NGO that works for children with Thalassemia and with support from Bloomberg. The Jaslok Hospital blood bank was a participant, with outreach across Mumbai. Jaslok blood bank is an N.AB.H. (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) accredited blood bank and holds an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) license.

The blood collected at the camp will be standardized in the Jaslok Hospital labs after being tested for HIV, Malaria, Hepatitis, etc., and will be available in stock for the patients the next day. The Blood Bank supplies blood to Thalassemia patients, other blood banks for patients in urgent need, and for underprivileged patients, free of cost. Patients who can afford to pay are charged a minimum cost, which covers the Blood Standardization testing charges.
