Environmentalist Foundation of India (E.F.I) is a wildlife conservation and habitat restoration group. A not for profit trust, E.F.I focuses on real-time and result oriented conservation efforts. E.F.I focuses on scientific revival of these freshwater bodies through a community based collaborative conservation effort. We volunteer for India & her Environment. E.F.I works out of 18 Indian states since 2007 and has restored 485 waterbodies, established over 77 afforestation sites, engaged over 2,50,000 individuals annually across the country in activities such as beach cleanups, lake cleanups and plantation drives. Elixir of Life poisoned is a major cause of concern. Modern India’s approach to conservation of freshwater bodies and lost wildlife habitats needs an immediate relook. We consider our water bodies as just water holding structures. However, these are important lifelines that is home to several different species. We at E.F.I aim at motivating the larger public in understanding, adopting and conserving our water bodies and protecting the fast declining habitats in the country.
Appeal
Loss of habitat is the primary reason for sharp decline in population of many endangered animals across the Indian Subcontinent. Less spoken about but needs most focus for its conservation status is the magnificent great Indian bustard. This heavy flying bird is struggling for survival with only a few hundred left. All efforts in reviving its population have been futile. Nannaj is an agrarian village close to Solapur in Maharashtra where lies the Great Indian Bustard sanctuary around which there is considerable change in landscape due to human activity which is further pushing this bird towards extinction. Funds generated from this marathon will be solely used in the conservation of this bird in the Nannaj region. From landpooling to expand the sanctuary, recreating the habitat, laboratory based interventions followed by a sustained effort to bring the number up in the region by 2030.
A last lap push not to win the race put to complete it in order to let India’s heaviest bird take wings
