Teach For India's goal is to put every child we work with on a different life path. Central to our impact is the pillar of leadership. We aim to develop Student leaders who display transformation in themselves, their classroom, community, and country.

The Teach For India Fellowship program was founded to build a strong pipeline of talent for the education sector; the Fellowship recruits and selects talented individuals and places them as full-time teachers in under-resourced schools. Most children who attend our schools belong to the most vulnerable section of society and primarily live in low-income, informal settlements/communities. Most of these students are first-generation learners from households with limited financial stability and a high risk of loss of employment or living in high-need communities and witnessing violence, alcoholism, and drug abuse. After two years of teaching, Fellows join the Alumni movement, continuing to serve children at depth and scale. In 2024-25, we have ~1000 Fellows across 8 cities (Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, and Ahmedabad), teaching ~28,000 students in our classrooms.

We also address educational inequity through our movement building programmes. TFIx trains early-stage entrepreneurs starting Fellowships in remote, vulnerable regions. InnovatED supports Teach For India Alumni in their early stages as education entrepreneurs. Firki, an open-source teacher training portal, delivers high-quality learning material and training to teachers, school leaders, and other educators. Kids Educational Revolution focuses on leadership development and amplifying student voice.

Appeal

Education is fundamental to an equitable society. An excellent education equips children and youth with the knowledge, skills, values, and mindsets needed to be empowered individuals and responsible citizens. The fact that a high-quality education has wide-ranging benefits for individuals and societies has been demonstrated, time and again, by countries across the world. With nearly 1 in 4 people below the age of 14 years, India today stands at an inflection point; where we go from here depends in large part on our ability to provide equal opportunities for all children to attain an excellent education.

The truth is that today, more than 50% of students in Grade 5 cannot read a Grade 2 text or solve a simple subtraction problem. The truth is that today, the socio-economic circumstances that a child is born into determines the type of school she attends, the kinds of co-curricular opportunities that are available to her, the quality of life outcomes she attains as an adult, and the kinds of opportunities she passes on to her own children.

The truth is that today, we are failing the majority of our children.

Spanning eight cities, Teach For India holds a critical role in the country's educational reform efforts. Since 2009, Teach For India has fuelled the education landscape with the talent needed to drive change and is building on proven Student impact across India: graduation rates, reading levels, child safety and more. We are now working to build a movement of 50,000 leaders by 2032, working collectively with love to transform the lives of 1 in 10 low-income children in our regions through an education that unleashes the potential of Self, Others, and India.

We invite people to partner with us on our journey to collectively equip children and educators and build on the impact and growth required for creating an equitable education ecosystem. The support we get will help strengthen and scale Teach For India's Core work.
