Project Description | Social-emotional learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. Sarthak SEPEt elements aim to shape these children into adults who can apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. Our SEPEt (Socio-Emotional Physical Ethical Wellbeing) program, based on designs from Harvard Graduate School of Education researchers, assesses and evaluates these essential elements integral to children's growth. As part of the SEPEt program activities and sessions were conducted in our Yellow Rooms: Indoor games and regular yoga of children across all the batches. Distribution of stationery, books, notebooks, bags. Clean and safe drinking water for all.

Beneficiary Description | Through its projects, the Sarthak Foundation reaches out to more than 6000 beneficiaries, 56% of these beneficiaries are girls, who are the most vulnerable to dropping out of education. It caters to children from the age of 3 to 21. Most families in these communities belong to SC, ST, OBC, and other minority groups, residing in semi-permanent houses or colonies. Many are migrants from various districts of Uttar Pradesh and some even from other states of India. The men typically work as daily wage laborers, sweepers, petty shopkeepers, or farm workers, while the women primarily engage in household chores. The areas they live in lack opportunities and have poor living conditions, making daily life a struggle. Before the intervention of Yellow Rooms, children were largely unmotivated to attend school, even if they were enrolled in a nearby institution. The lack of infrastructure, social and economic hardships, and over-crowded Primary and Upper Primary Govt. schools contributed to low school attendance and poor learning levels for these children.
Impact | We currently have 29 Yellow Rooms, 8 Yellow SLATEs, and 1 Gurukul, serving over 6,000 direct beneficiaries, including children and youth aged 3 to 21. Among our beneficiaries, 56% are girls. A total of 56 children have completed K-12 formal education, 33 are in college and doing internships, and 23 are in full-time jobs.

Project Description | Yellow Room is a long term, in-depth and immersive intervention that aims to turn children from very marginalized backgrounds into complete and well-rounded human beings by taking education and emotional and physical wellness to their doorsteps. Yellow Rooms as not just centres where a child could go to get a free class but as permanent safe spaces right in the middle of their SEDG communities. Yellow Rooms are open 6 days a week, all year round and each child in the slum spends 3 to 4 hours every day in the Yellow Rooms. The Yellow Rooms are completely free of cost for the children and the community. The Sarthak Yellow Rooms not only run classes for Science, Maths and English, but they also put equal stress on health, hygiene, industry exposure, nutrition, gender awareness and gender equality, general knowledge, communication and etiquette. The Yellow Rooms also undertake community outreach and parent counselling activities and establish long-lasting roots in the slums. By taking education and emotional wellness to their doorsteps we actually become part of the community.
