EAIF exists to make mental healthcare more accessible across India. Our aim is to break the cycle of abuse through mental health interventions, to bridge the gap between those who may have faced trauma and their inability to access mental healthcare through school curriculums, community based mental health programs and by building the capacity of those already on the frontline. We work in childcare institutions for children that fall under the Juvenile Justice Care Act, in BMC schools, urban slums and rural areas.
Appeal
The "Transformative Mental Healthcare for Vulnerable Children" project is designed to address the unique emotional needs of children residing in a childcare institution for a year. These children, often coming from challenging backgrounds, require specialized support to heal from past traumas, develop emotional resilience, and reintegrate successfully into society. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Juvenile Justice Care Act of India and aims to create a safe and nurturing environment that fosters their emotional well-being and holistic development. Program Components include Trauma-Informed Counselling Sessions with professional mental health experts who will conduct weekly individual and group counselling sessions tailored to the unique needs of each child. Children will have a safe space to share their feelings, process traumatic experiences, and learn healthy ways to cope. We will also provide Emotional Workshops and Activities using arts based therapy, music therapy, play therapy and journaling all of which will encourage creative self-expression and emotional release. We also include Caregiver Training to help those caring for the children on recognising signs of emotional distress, understanding trauma, and providing appropriate support.
