Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organization that leads the global fight against hunger. Operating in over 50 countries for more than 40 years, we have been determined in our pursuit to predict, treat and prevent the causes and consequences of hunger, helping 25 million people each year. We take action to save lives, enable people and communities with the right tools and training to become resilient, and lead research for long-term solutions.

While hope connects, it’s action that moves

In India, our operations, from the grassroots upwards, are focused on taking decisive action against the causes and effects of malnutrition. Action Against Hunger currently works in partnership with State Governments on preventing and treating malnutrition through the ‘First 1,000 Days of Life’ approach. Currently, we operate in 1,272 villages covering 3,005 Anganwadi centers in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, including six slum pockets in Mumbai.

Appeal

At Action Against Hunger, our agenda is not centred on just feeding hungry children. We realise that malnutrition is a medical condition and respond to it accordingly. Our work spans across three broad categories –
- Treatment - Providing home-based treatment to children suffering from moderate acute malnutrition and referring children with severe acute malnutrition to the nearest Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres (NRC).
- Prevention - Counsel and educate mothers and the community at large on the causes and symptoms of malnutrition, maternal and child nutrition, etc., and ensure access to various nutrition-sensitive interventions such as WASH and Food Security and Livelihood in order to effectively prevent malnutrition.
- Sustainability - Capacity building of Anganwadi and ASHA workers on identifying the early signs of malnutrition and taking corrective actions.
Use of technology - We leverage technological solutions at multiple stages of our programme. We have incorporated technology right from the visible front at the grassroots level till the backend operations of our work
