Project Name | Soil and Water Conservation Project
Amount Utilized (INR) | 1934000
Project Description | This project was executed for the farmers in Yavatmal and Waigaon (Wardha district). In these region the rain water would drain with it the top nutrient layer of the soil. Also the water would run out of the farms and eventually get wasted. COTAAP Research Foundation built bunds, trenches and recharge pits at strategic locations in the farms. This ensured that the water was routed into the trenches and the recharge pits. The water from the recharge pits was available for farmers for irrigation and also as drinking water for months after the monsoon season. The water in the trenches percolated into the earth and helped increase the ground water table. The nutrient top layer of the soil was retained in the farm land ensuring better yield for the farmers.

Project Description | Soil and Water Conservation project helped farmers in Yavatmal and Wardha district to conserve the top most fertile soil. This soil otherwise runs away from the farm lands in the monsoons making the land arid. Additionally rain water also runs away in the monsoons and gets wasted. This project ensures that the top fertile soil stays in the farm and rain water is also stored in specially created and dug pits. Retaining the water in these pits helps availability of this water to farmers way past monsoons and also helps increase the ground water table of the land.
