Project Description | My Library for a Better Me: Children visit the local library and access the “My Library for a Better me” programme through Activity cards that focus on Citizenship Values, Life Skills, Financial Literacy, Digital Literacy & Legal Literacy. Collective Action is encouraged through powerful projects, field trips, and campaigns to bring about change. Parents too are given an orientation to the programme. CMCA has been successfully running the My Library for a Better Me program since 2021 , In 2023 we reached out to 9000+ children through 85 libraries in rural Karnataka . The feedback from the Government as well as from parents has been tremendous. Clubs Programme: A CMCA Club comprises of a group of students from the 7th and 8th grade to spread awareness on democratic and civic issues. When a school signs up to this programme, the curriculum is delivered over a period of nine months at a weekly ‘CMCA Club period’ allotted by the school during its regular timetable. Rather than having the school’s own teachers deliver this curriculum, it is facilitated by a CMCA Educator, typically one of our committed volunteers.

Impact | My Library for a Better Me: As a part of My Library for a Better Me of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, Government of Karnataka, CMCA started My Library for a Better Me - a citizenship and life skills programme for children in 10 Panchayat libraries in Tumakuru and Ramanagara. Children enrol into the 3-year programme and visit libraries where trained CMCA mentors are available once a week to guide and inspire them. Children get to select from a range of activities on citizenship and life skills which they can take home and do. This is further strengthened by group activities that inspire community involvement. Children are guided to form collectives with the CMCA mentor called ‘Together for Change’ action projects and participate in collective action – identify issues in the community and solve them Clubs Programme: The Club programme was successfully conducted in 10 clubs of Mumbai schools. 344 children were impacted through our campaigns and activities of club programme. The students clubs programme participated in the Field trips, Beach Cleanup drive, Tata Mumbai Marathon, campaigns like Eco Ganesha, Celebrating My City Traffic Police, Thanks Giving Day, School Profile projects

Impact | We intervened in 40 Panchayats in Karnataka by energizing Children's Village Sabhas - empowering children to identify issues that affect their lives and giving them the confidence and channel to raise the same with officials. Children raised more than 900 issues. Issues raised included securing drinking water, compound wall, fixing of toilet, start of a new bus route, and several other issues related to basic needs and rights of children which have been taken note by respective Gram Panchayat for resolution in phase manner. Reached 250 students through the Magic Box program in government school where students of grades 1-3 enjoyed learning through activities using instruction cards and props. This life skill intervention helps build confidence, love, empathy, and understanding diversity at an early age. Through the Clubs program, we reached 2040 students in Maharashtra through weekly sessions in schools. We received very heartening feedback from teachers, librarians & parents, who said that children enjoyed the activities and were keen for CMCA sessions to continue further.
