Project Description | The WSD Community On-Site First Aid programme covers more than 12,000 cases per year - Coverage – Cuffe Parade to Mahim and Sion in Mumbai. We covered 13,106 cases in 2023-24. WSD through its eight animal nurses and one veterinarian cover the above mentioned areas for administering on-site first aid to the street animals. We receive 50-60 calls on our helpline on a daily basis. | ||||||

Impact | The impact of this programme was to proactively provide basic on-site medical aid to street animals in distress. The nature of intervention depended on the type of case received. The intervention covered cases with animals having skin problems, wounds, cuts, bites, bruises, maggot wound, ear and eye infections and small injuries. Serious cases that need an intervention of the WSD veterinarian were also treated.13,106 cases for street dogs and cats were treated in 2023-24. | ||||||

Project Description | Trained on-site field personnel and volunteers attend to first-aid cases from the calls that are received on WSD’s help-line. Stray dogs are treated for maggot wounds, cuts, bites and skin problems. WSD currently covers Cuffe Parade to Bandra/Sion . Many street dogs and cats in need of first-aid can be attended to and the case followed up on site. WSD also carries out mass immunization programmes of re-vaccinating stray dogs against rabies. | ||||||

Impact | The WSD on-site first aid programme has seen a phenomenal jump in the number of cases that are being treated on the street by our veterinary doctor and ten animal nurses for calls received on the WSD Helpline. WSD treated a total of 10449 street animals. Cases like maggot wounds, skin problems, cuts, bites, small injuries, eye and ear infections were treated. | ||||||
