Project Description | Khelshala engages children after school for 3 hours daily and provides them with academic support; squash; physical and mental fitness training through qualified teachers, coaches and mentors. Children are provided guidance and help to complete their homework ; encourage them to read books; gain basic computer skills; and discuss news. To combat malnutrition, they are provided with supplemental nourishment in the form of fruits, milk and vitamins. Concurrently, they are offered specialist skills in sport such as training the students to become certified coaches, referees, tournament administrators, and learn racquet maintenance techniques. Students are trained to develop additional skills to become yoga instructors; physical education teachers, gym trainers, and life/wellness coaches. Khelshala also recruits passionate volunteers to help in all aspects of the organization, ranging from administrative work, academic support, and squash instruction. Khelshala enables life long skills through life time sports. | ||||||

Beneficiary Description | Khelshala primarily serves underprivileged and underserved kids in Chandigarh. The focus is on providing these children with opportunities to improve their educational outcomes and excel in elite sports such as squash and tennis, creating a positive and lasting impact on their lives. Age Group: The beneficiaries typically range from 6 to 17 years old, covering crucial developmental years. Gender Breakdown: The organization serves both boys and girls, striving for gender equality and inclusivity in its programs. Number of Beneficiaries: Khelshala has directly impacted hundreds of children over the years, with 50 to 100 active beneficiaries at any given time, and a larger cumulative impact from past participants. | ||||||
Impact | In its 15 years, Khelshala has achieved many milestones resulting in expanding from the initial 35 students to 125 students at its peak. Many of these students have achieved high accolades as listed below: Sport: - 15 National Level Players. - 1 - X2 All India University Champion. - 3 State Champions. - 12 - 2nd and 3rd Place State Awardees. - 50 Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) Junior Circuit Tournament Players. - 12 – Boys and Girls Represented Chandigarh National School Championships. Academic: - 7 College Graduates. - 2 Pursuing Bachelors in College. - 4 Preparing for College. - 60 High School Graduates. - Alumni Achievements: Khelshala’s alumni have made significant contributions in various fields: - Akhilesh Kumar - National Champion under the Pro Coach category in the HCL 80th National Championship. - Squash coaches are now active at Hamdard School, Shiv Nadar School, Yadvindra Public School, and Spring Days International School. - Tennis coaches are coaching at ISBT, Strawberry Fields, and in Australia. - Parul Verma is working in the squash camp of Saurav Ghosal. - There are 6 national-level referees in tournaments endorsed by SRFI. - 3 alumni have earned a Master’s degree in Physical Education. - 3 alumni hold WSF Level 1 coaching certifications. | ||||||
