Mumbai Mobile Creches is a 51 year old non-profit organisation in Mumbai working with children living on construction sites. MMC's vision is that each child should have a happy and nurturing childhood, leading to effective citizenship. To realise this vision, MMC works with children of migrant labourers living on construction sites, as they are among the most vulnerable segments of the urban poor in Mumbai. Through comprehensive and holistic day care centres, MMC addresses the educational, health, and nutritional needs of children on construction sites. MMC is the only organisation that works with children living on construction sites in Mumbai.

Appeal

Support Mumbai Mobile Creches (MMC)!
In Mumbai, the struggles and challenges of migrant construction workers and their families are invisible.
The extreme poverty and parents’ inability to sacrifice even a day’s work denies these children from enjoying their childhood, they are left to fend for themselves and look after their younger siblings. They lack access to social safety net and any other support systems. The dangerous construction sites are their only playground leading to safety issues and accidents.
This need not be the case; these children too can have a happy, healthy, and educated childhood through MMC’s comprehensive programmes.
With your help and support together, we can make a greater impact ensuring;
• Each child receives safety measures, and the warmth of a care through our day care model.
• Children receive educational and language foundation that prepares them for mainstreaming in schools. Thus, bridging the gaps and they embark on a journey of knowledge and growth.
• Each child receives supplementary nutrition and healthcare support.
• MMC's impact goes beyond children by engaging and strengthening the parents and the community through our outreach programme
By supporting MMC’s cause, you get a chance of shaping the destiny of these invisible children.

Project DescriptionAt Mumbai Mobile Crèches, we believe that every child has a fundamental right to education, adequate healthcare, and safety. To put this belief into practice, we run child friendly centres for children living on construction sites and from other underprivileged communities. These centres not only keep children out of harm’s but also address their educational and health needs so that they are able to enjoy their childhood in a setting that is safe and supportive.
Through the contribution, we supported comprehensive day care programmes for on an average 1731 children living on 19 construction sites, nine brick kilns, two quarry sites and two slums.

Our day care centres;
• Support the cognitive, emotional and physical development of very young children and build a strong foundation for the enrolment and retention of children in school
• Free older children from the burden of childcare and help them enrol and do well in school
• Enable parents, especially mothers, to enter and/or stay in the work place while their children are in our care
• Provide guidance and support to parents on education, health, nutrition and other relevant social issues
