The War Wounded Foundation was started in 2002 by two Decorated and War Wounded Veterans, Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi and Maj Gen Ian Cardozo. Due to their adv age,after 20 yrs of selfless service, the org was handed over to the new generation. Presently, Lt Gen Asit Mistri is the President of the War Wounded Foundation.
The War Wounded Foundation provides Mobility Equipment to the Disabled soldiers, to enable them to move out of the confines of their house, thereby enhancing their self confidence. They are encouraged to start their own business by provision of financial help and advice . For daughters' marriage, Rs one lakh help is provided by WWF. Toilets are modified to make them user friendly. Rallies are held in turn, in AOR of each Army Comds, to enable Wounded/Injured Soldiers to interact and take benefit of educational presentations by reputed experts on Injury Mgmt, Financial Mgmt, Psy related issues of Disability and Welfare related Govt Schemes .
Appeal
Since there is no government funding of War Wounded Foundation, donations from philanthropists are solicited for:-
(a) Counseling, Motivation and Training of War Disabled soldiers to be able to run soldier entrepreneurs in/ around their villages.
(b) Training of war disabled in skills such as basic computer application, English speaking, driving, refrigerator/TV/vehicle mechanic and other soft skills.
(c) Provide Disabled Friendly Toilets to wheel-chair , modified scooters, bound war disabled soldiers with disability such as paraplegia/quadreplegia.
(d) Personal visits and correspondence with Ministry of Defence, Service HQ, CDA pension and DPDO in District HQ, besides interactive sessions with disabled soldiers in their native villages to address the problems faced by them.
(e) Increasing area of outreach visits to Southern , Northern and Eastern states besides Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
