URMUL stands for Uttari Rajasthan Milk Union Federation Limited and SETU means Bridge. Urmul Setu Sansthan was formed to act as a bridge between most deprived section of the society and the development opportunities including access to govt. services and schemes. Urmul Setu Sansthan is a social development NGO operating in the villages of western Rajasthan primarily in dist. Bikaner and neighbouring districts for more than 28 years. The Organisation has been instrumental in facilitating formation & strengthening village level community based groups for women, farmers and children enabling them to better their lives through practicing good personal hygiene & environmental sanitation, improve their household income through engaging themselves in SHG group, credit linkages, entrepreneurship, vocational trainings, pursue higher education especially for girls, avail benefits from govt. schemes & services. With a view to provide an opportunity to drop out girls to pursue education, Urmul initiated six-month’s residential and non-residential Balika Shivirs (Girls’ Education Camp) since 1998 till 2018 and has helped more than 4000 such girls to pass their primary, secondary and graduation level education including preparation for competitive exam. Currently, organisation is implementing projects on issues viz, child marriage, girl child education, adolescent mental health and livelihood.

Appeal

Owing to lack of good coaching facilities, career counselling, proper and timely guidance girls of rural and remote village are unable score and compete with their urban counterparts and get selected for govt. jobs. Keeping this in mind, organisation has setup 7 village level libraries wherein 125 girls are currently enrolled and are preparing for competitive examinations to realize their dream of getting selected in govt. jobs and becoming financially independent. These libraries are providing village girls with a designated space, time, resources and ambiance to focus on their studies. We intend to reach out to 600 more aspiring girls and hence wish to setup 20 more such libraries and upgrade them into digital libraries which will help them get access to digital world of knowledge giving them an upper hand to prepare themselves better. We also intend to hire subject experts to help them in career selection, timely guidance and support, doubt clearing sessions, mock tests thus enhancing their ability and chances of selection and in realising their dream and making their lives better.
