Project: Water Conservation for Climate-Smart Agriculture
Aim:
Harvest Water, Boost Crops, Raise Income by 50% for Palghar Farmers
Objective:
Dig 200 small water storage pits (15ft x 15ft x 20ft) for tribal farmers in Wada, Vikramgad, and Jawhar talukas.
Implementation Plan:
- Farmer Identification: Target small and marginal farmers.
- Site Selection: Assess soil and topography to select suitable sites.
- Pit Construction: Use local labor and machinery to dig pits, each storing up to 1 lakh liters of water.
- Capacity Building: Train farmers on the use and maintenance of pits, focusing on water conservation and crop management.
Return on Investment:
- Each pit will allow 80,000 liters of water to percolate into the ground during monsoon.
- Post-monsoon, 80,000 liters will support winter crops.
- Farmers can earn an additional Rs. 20,000-30,000 by growing extra crops.
- The project will transform wastelands into productive farmland, enhancing agriculture and reducing distress migration.
