Founded in 2010, One Billion Literates Foundation (OBLF) is a grassroots non-profit whose mission is to create better futures for the underserved rural communities of Anekal Taluk, in the outskirts of Bangalore.
OBLF’s theory of change is rooted in a holistic approach to poverty alleviation that utilizes a systems-based, complementary set of investments to improve the livelihood of the Anekal Taluk. Through its four core programs, OBLF has over the last decade served 43,000+ children, trained and employed 400+ women, improved the quality of life for 2,000+ people in ultra-marginalized communities, and provided primary healthcare to 15,000+ people.
OBLF's Multidimensional Approach
1) ELEVATE Education : English language training to primary school children ages 5-12 and subject teaching to the government middle and high school students.
2) KICKSTART Careers : Train semi-educated women from the community to become teachers and frontline healthcare workers
3) REMEDY Public Health : Enable predictable primary health care access to remote, rural communities and combat NCDs.
4) NURTURE Communities: Integrate marginalized groups, such as nomadic tribes and cross-border migrants, into the Anekal Taluk community, improving the quality of life of the entire community.
Appeal
OBLF's Nurture program serves marginalized communities, particularly the Hakki Pikki and Iruliga tribes in Bannerghatta and Bangladeshi refugee waste pickers in Heelalige.
