Kalote Animal Trust, fondly known as KAT, is now synonymous with animal shelter and animal welfare among animal lovers across the country. Step by step, we have grown, not only in numbers but also in terms of infrastructure. What started with 150 animals - the shelter is now home to over 600 animals.

From Sameer Vohra being the sole caregiver, the team now boasts of 21 staff members to ensure the best care for our beloved inmates.

The Kalote Animal Trust is a labour of love. We try to keep costs at a bare minimum without compromising on the quality of life of the animals. But it is an uphill task as we do not have regular sponsors and currently we run on the goodwill donations of people. However, these donations are sporadic and we are looking for sponsors and partners who can donate regularly to our cause.

Appeal

At KAT, in addition to caring for our 600 residents, we strongly believe in the welfare of our community dogs and cats . We prioritise animal sterilisation as it effectively curbs the population and minimises accidents and disease occurrences. To fulfil this commitment, our clinic conducts weekly area-wide sterilisation camps . The animals are picked up by our staff in co-ordination with their caretakers and feeders, and after recovery dropped back at their area.
Surgeries are performed by our vets at the in-house clinic.

ImpactNeutering animals can have several positive impacts on humans and communities. Here are some key points:

Community Benefits
Reduced Overpopulation: Neutering helps control the population of stray and unwanted animals, decreasing the number of animals that end up in shelters and reducing euthanasia rates.

Lower Animal Control Costs: With fewer stray animals, municipalities can save on costs related to animal control, sheltering, and care, allowing resources to be redirected to other community needs.

Safer Environments: Fewer stray animals can lead to a decrease in incidents of bites or attacks, contributing to safer neighborhoods.

Enhanced Public Health: Neutered animals are less likely to roam, reducing the chances of spreading diseases among animal populations and to humans.

Project DescriptionProject : Sterilization of stray Dogs and Cats
The only possible way to put a stop to the ever-increasing population of stray dogs and cats is by sterilizing them so that they will not produce more offspring. Furthermore, male dogs can start procreating as early as 6 months and can sire unlimited litters. Only 20 percent of puppies in India make it to their first birthday. Spay and neutering street dogs is the most humane way to stabilize stray animal populations.
Neutering brings down general aggression. Also, once the males are neutered, they have no urge to wander far, and they “settle down” at a place and treat it as “home”. As a result, they prevent new dogs from entering.

Beneficiary DescriptionWe held 36 Sterilization camps at our shelter's clinic . A total of 325 dogs and 35 stray cats were neutered and spayed and thereafter returned to their "area" after recovery. Surgeries were performed by our Shelter Vet Dr Aditya Jha and assisted by Mrs Kirti Patial and our staff members. The ages of the animals ranged from 6 months to 10 years.
ImpactSterilisation programmes are an effective tool for controlling street dog populations. High densities of free roaming or street dogs increases the risk of human dog bites, zoonotic disease transmission, and poorer animal welfare .
