ADAPT, Formerly The Spastics Society of India, was set up in 1972 by our Founder President, Dr. Mithu Alur to address the educational and therapy needs of children with cerebral palsy. From a special school started with three children it has grown to provide services that include assessment, treatment, inclusive education, continuum of support services for inclusion, counseling, vocational guidance, training, job placement and advocacy for children and young adults with disability, and a women’s empowerment programme. ADAPT also works to influence changes in policy at the national level as this impacts children and youth from all marginalized groups across the country.
ADAPT works to ensure that all disabled children have equal access to education, and all disabled youth have equal job opportunities.
With the aim to create a disability friendly nation, we provide.
Education, Therapy, Counseling and support services for disabled children, youth and their families.
Skills Training and Job Placement for disabled youth.
A forum for disabled people to advocate for their rights and to promote public awareness of disability issues.
Additionally, we work towards changes in policy that will positively impact the disabled, persons at the local state and national level.
Appeal
Countless individuals who live with disabilities find themselves overlooked and marginalized, trapped in a cycle of poverty and despair. In India, over 25 million people face these challenges, often hindered by a lack of equal educational and employment opportunities.
For 52 years, ADAPT has provided vital services, assessment, screening, inclusive education, therapy, counseling, vocational training, skills development for employment, awareness building. We don’t just offer support; we nurture aspirations, cultivate skills, and foster socio-emotional development. Yet, the reality is that the annual cost of these life-changing services is approximately Rs. 2,00,000 per beneficiary, a sum far beyond the reach of most families we serve, many of whom come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
That’s where you come in. The funds raised through the TMM will be instrumental in sustaining this crucial work. Your generosity will directly support children and youth living with disabilities at our centers in Bandra, Colaba, Chembur, and Dharavi. With your help, we can empower them through education, provide them with essential health services, and create a ripple effect that will awaken the community to the extraordinary potential of these individuals.
Together, we can create a world where each person is valued and cherished.
