As per the survey we have seen the issues on the education front, at least 35 million children aged 6–14 years do not attend school. 53% of girls in the age group of 5 to 9 years are illiterate. According to the report, the study shows that among 16% of adolescent boys indulged in substance use behaviors, tobacco consumption (15.4%) had increased at an alarming rate. Salaam Bombay Foundation believes that, “Every child in school has a Future” and with this philosophy it began its operations in 2002. SBF is focused on engaging Mumbai's most vulnerable "at risk” adolescents, living in urban slums, studying in government and government-aided schools through their in-school programmes and after-school academies in Arts, Media, Sports and Vocational skills, that help build their confidence, self-esteem and commit them to stay in school while staying tobacco-free.
