Hi friends, my name is Anand Sharma, live in New Jagdeesh Nagar, Indore with many difficulties and challenges. In the rainy season water gets filled on lanes and life is stuck in slums. There is no paved road form approach road to our basti. During summers, we face acute shortage of drinking water and general-use water, because there no piped water supply from IMC. We are dependent only on one govt boring which dries up in summers as the ground water decreases. Our New star children's group and women’s groups negotiate with govt. authorities with UHRC's support. We have a little success in as a small part of our basti street was paved. We are pursuing for paving unpaved street & improving water facilities. We improve our negotiation skills in UHRC's guidance. Political leaders and elected Ward Councillor rarely visit the basti. They come only in election time. There are no govt schools near our basti. I go to a private school and there is no play ground and other interesting activities. UHRC formed a children group in basti and I have elected as active member of our group. We are learning with many enjoyable activities like book reading exercise, quiz contest, drawing competition and sports day with other basti children. Me, members of our group and others friend from the basti are now aware many social issues, because UHRC’s activities help us children and youth improve knowledge and sharpen our skills and confidence in performing and speaking before large audience.
