My name is Dr. Shailesh Wagle and I am a public health expert. At United Way Mumbai, I lead the health projects which include interventions on Malnutrition, Women & Child Health, Hepatitis B, Covid-19, and much more. I have been with UWM for 9 years and have witnessed the growth and impact we create in people's lives.

MENSTRUATION!!! The stigma around this word and the lack of knowledge has led to discrimination against women for years. But the impact that we fail to see is on school going girls. Not having proper facilities to take care of themselves during the menstrual cycle, leads to mental harassment, vulnerability to infections, absenteeism and much more. Girls in school going age should be aware about menstrual hygiene and should be in an environment where they can freely practice menstrual hygiene.
I am a public health expert and am working on changing practices among school going girls to ensure they have access to sanitation and basic care during their periods. My team has created a kit that has proven successful to assist girls understand importance of sanitary napkins, hand hygiene, correct disposal and personal grooming during periods.
I am raising funds for providing these kits to girls in the rural parts of Karjat who reside in Ashram Schools (Boarding schools). Join me to make this happen
