About Me

Dr. Nirmal Surya, MD, DNB, is the Chairman of Surya Neuro Centre and Founder, Trustee and Chairman of the Epilepsy Foundation, India. He is a visiting Consultant Neurologist at Honorary Consultant at Bombay Hospital and Saifee Hospital. A career spanning 30 years, he is, at present the President of the esteemed Bombay Neuroscience Association and Regional Vice-President of the World Federation of Neurology (South Asia). He is also the Past President at Indian Academy of Neurology and President of the Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation. He has presented over 250 papers in National and International conferences and numerous publications. He has been running a Free Epilepsy Clinic for more than 23 years.

Appeal

Epilepsy is a treatable disease today but needs early supervised treatment. In today's era, new medications are available with lesser side effects and due to better efficacy we can treat almost 70-80% patients easily. For the rest there is new hope today in the form of surgery, Ketogenic diets, Vagal-Nerve Stimulation, Pacemakers, etc.
These wonderful and up-to date techniques are not only available all over the world but also in India. Yet they remain expensive and out of reach for most patients. We at the Epilepsy Foundation strive to be a conduit between deserving patients and these treatment options, irrespective of their status. It's our ambition to give them their best shot to a fulfilling, normal life. Epilepsy or not, every one of us dreams and has aspirations to be someone. So why should a disease hamper them from becoming the next Da Vinci, Newton or Steve Jobs? I humbly call on you to become a part of us and our dream and make miracles happen.
