About Me
I believe that disability is not a constraint but only a condition. I am myself a person with Muscular Dystrophy and having done my Chartered Accountancy am totally dedicated for the cause of disability and to the service of Amar Seva Sangam. Developing this organization as a preferred destination in disability management is my endeavor and sustainability and scalability are my challenges. I am taking part in the wheelchair event for the eleventh consecutive year at SCMM to raise funds for this organization. My wife and myself have together raised Rs.46lakhs last year and our aim this year is to raise Rs.50 Lakhs.
Appeal
Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive gradual decay of the muscle cells and a gene related problem. Initially people start falling which will lead to total paralysis and at the end stage will have respiratory and cardiac weakness which may be fatal. Unlike other disabilities, rehabilitation and management opportunities are very limited and the solution lies in equipping the person with daily living skills to cope with their deteriorating condition. 3 out of every 10,000 are said to be affected by MD at the global level. Many children and youth in India are affected with MD, leading to inability for school education and lack of basic life care support systems.
Persons with Muscular Dystrophy have historically faced isolation and segregation and, despite marginal improvements, such forms of discrimination continue to be serious and pervasive.
Amar Seva Sangam is an institution that provides different types of support to persons affected by MD. It has spearheaded a village-based rehabilitation model which supports more than 14,000 disabled persons in 800 odd villages in 3 districts of Southern Tamilnadu and hundreds of spinal cord injured and muscular dystrophy affected persons all over the country.
This year along with several volunteers I will be participating in the wheelchair run to raise funds to our organization. My fund raising in the past has been exceedingly successful due to overwhelming support from people like you. I hope this year will be no exception.
