About Me and My Work

Hello, my name is Meena, and I have been dedicated to the field of HIV/AIDS care and advocacy since 2002. I am part of the ASHA Project, an initiative committed to improving the lives of individuals living with HIV. While we work with all categories of HIV-positive individuals, we have pioneered efforts to support senior citizens—a group that is particularly vulnerable and often abandoned by their families and society.

Many of these senior citizens depend on their children for financial and other forms of support. Unfortunately, they face daily stigma and discrimination, which compounds their challenges. At ASHA, we aim to address not only their healthcare needs but also their emotional and social well-being, ensuring they live with dignity.

In addition, we focus on supporting adolescents and youth living with HIV. With advancements in Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART), there is hope that this generation of HIV-positive children will be the last. ART now enables individuals to live long, healthy lives, provided they adhere to their treatment. This is why it is crucial to address their mental, physical, and social needs, so they can lead a stress-free life.

However, these young individuals face immense pressure as they grow older. Stigma, discrimination, and concerns about their future—such as education, employment, and marriage—are constant burdens. Through our work, we strive to alleviate these challenges and give them hope for a better tomorrow.

At Asha Project, we are on a mission to bring hope and healing to the HIV-infected and affected community in Mumbai. Every day, we witness the struggles of individuals and families facing rejection, stigma, and isolation. But with your support, we can make a difference.
