I was married off young, a decision made by my parents. Before that, I was an eager student with big dreams and a passion for life. I participated in school activities, and I imagined a future where I could be someone. But my life took a harsh turn when I was trapped in a marriage filled with emotional and physical abuse. I lost the person I once was — the girl with hopes and aspirations.
For years, I felt helpless, as if I had no way out. But, I couldn’t take it any longer. I escaped, and my journey led me to Mumbai, where, at Dadar station, the police connected me with Urja Trust. That moment changed everything. The helplessness I had felt was replaced by courage.
Urja Trust gave me a safe space, a place where I could rebuild and find hope again. They gave me the strength to reclaim my life. With their support, I started learning tailoring, building skills that would help me create a future in women’s garments.

Today, when I look at the Tata Mumbai Marathon, I see more than just a race. It represents my journey of resilience, courage, and transformation. It symbolizes the part of me that believed in myself and found the strength to break free. It’s a reminder that no matter how dark things may seem, there is always a way forward — and a community ready to help you rediscover your dreams.
