About Me

About me:

I am Purvi, mother to 2 lovely young adults but a loving voice for all! I have been associated with Jai Vakeel for 14 years now and I’m thrilled to join the fundraising mission for our lovely students and artisans.

I work closely with the ‘Sheltered Workshop’ at Jai Vakeel and help design products such as candles, decorative torans and diyas and many more festive / seasonal items, which are then crafted by our sweet artisans.

Jai Vakeel is well-ingrained in me at this point and also a second home. The love and reverence for this place and people compounds each year!

Appeal

Devotion in its purest form can transcend most lived experiences.
Such is the nature of my time spent at Jai Vakeel Foundation (JVF) - a humble attempt at leaving behind a credible footprint amidst beautiful students, teachers and other facilitators.

JVF is a non-profit NGO that hosts children and individuals with Intellectual Disability (ID).
What is ID you ask?
It is a condition where a person’s IQ is below 70, which hinders their adaptive behaviors affecting their daily life. Statistically, 1 among 50 people in India battles with ID and yet surprisingly their toil goes unnoticed.

JVF was founded in 1944 by Mrs. Jai Vakeel with the simple idea of making a difference in the life of one child. 80 years hence, we have had the privilege of impacting the lives of 20,000 individual across Maharashtra, with 700 students ranging between ages 3 - 50 years enrolled with us across 3 of our branches in Maharashtra.

We also serve 2000 children yearly with neurological disorders through medical camps set up in rural regions.

Through ‘Disha Abhiyan’, JVF facilitates studies in 475 special schools across 36 districts in Maharashtra, for 18,000 more children.

At JVF, our teachers and support staff help maximize the learning potential for individuals with ID through assimilation and application of various vocations. Despite the grim view one may have of ID as a force to reckon with, we invite you to come see the true magic emanating from every corner of our campus!
Our children gleam with nothing but pure joy and everybody shares a warm relationship with one another.

Everybody does their bit and often goes well beyond their threshold. Today, we are raising funds together in order to take a joint step towards inclusion and ableism.

I would implore you to join us in our philanthropic journey. No donation is too small as the whole is always larger than the sum of all parts. We may not be able to expect equal outcomes for all, but the little we do can often go towards offer equal opportunity to more - and that makes all the difference!
