Appeal
The Urban Health Resource Centre (UHRC) works with slum communities to educate them on various health issues and government services, aiming to empower them to demand better health services. UHRC focuses not only on improving health outcomes but also on building human capacity, particularly among women and children in slums. Social facilitators help strengthen confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to demand rights. The program also includes teaching communities how to negotiate with officials for entitlements through community requests and petitions. The emphasis is on evidence-based negotiation and demonstrating practical actions. These skills benefit over 400,000 vulnerable people in Indore and Agra, enabling them to access essential services. The positive impacts of these efforts often extend beyond the UHRC program area, benefiting communities beyond the initial target area.
