About Me
MukkaMaar x Sharmila
Hi! I’m Sharmila, a grade 10 student with an interest in sports, dance and photography. I have volunteered at different NGOs mainly in the field of child welfare and education. In continuing my efforts, I hope to be able to support MukkaMaar and their cause to help empower young girls.
Today, 1 in 3 girls in India face violence. I believe it is imperative to come together to help keep every girl safe. This Tata Mumbai Marathon, I am running for the NGO MukkaMaar. With your support, I hope to raise INR 1,00,000 to support around 30 girls within their programs. That’s 30 more girls empowered to defend themselves from gender-based violence and live the life they wish to.
Appeal
Gender-based violence is an ongoing reality for women and girls all around the country, stripping them of their freedom and agency. Over the past 6 years, MukkaMaar has changed the lives of 20,000+ girls and continues to work to improve the lives of so many more, giving them the confidence and empowerment to stand up for themselves and live freely and independently.
The flagship MukkaMaar Girls program is a 3-year program with bi-weekly classes conducted during school hours in government schools by trained martial arts champions. The digital program, MukkaMaar with Mukki (MwM) is a WhatsApp chatbot that delivers a condensed version of this program in an interactive, gamified and self-paced format.
This year, MukkaMaar will empower around 5,00,000 girls across the country, and many more in the future if you can help support their programs and better the lives of these girls. It takes only INR 300 to support a girl for a month under MukkaMaar’s programs, which is surprisingly less than what you spend on a cup of coffee! This comes up to INR 3,600 to help support a girl for an entire year. Please do contribute as much as you can to help keep these girls safe and give them a happier life.
Join me in supporting MukkaMaar Girls to #RunInFreedom.
