About Me

My name is Anshul Bhatt. I am a 15-year old, grade 11 student at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai, India. I love playing Bridge, and I am the youngest ever winner of all three gold medals – Pairs, Teams (as Captain) and Overall Performance – at the Under-16 World Bridge Transnational Youth Championships in August 2022 held in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy. In a kind gesture, Mr. Bill Gates recently invited me to play on his Bridge team while he was in India. (https://www.instagram.com/p/CpTSqfPsa02/). My 2021 TEDx talk Bridge: A Game for Life has received a great response.

My grandfather has suffered from dementia for the last 6 years, and Bridge has been shown to reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. I have been conducting Bridge and Monopoly sessions at Dignity Foundation centers, and I plan to run the Tata Mumbai Marathon to raise fund to support this initiative further.

Appeal

In India, over 4 million people are currently living with dementia, and this number is expected to triple by 2050 (to the tune of a staggering 13 million!) due to the rapidly ageing population. Dementia in India remains widely underdiagnosed, and many seniors and their families struggle with limited access to correct knowledge and specialized care and support.

Currently, Mumbai has only one dementia day care centre, operated by the 30-year-old elderly welfare NGO Dignity Foundation, providing vital services like memory therapy, cognitive activities, and social engagement to those living with dementia. But the rapid growing need for such care centres is far greater. Many more seniors and their families are struggling with this condition, and the demand for support is increasing daily.

Through my Tata Mumbai Marathon run, I am enabling Dignity Foundation to raise sufficient funds to establish at least one more Dementia Day Care Centre in Mumbai, offering specialized care and a nurturing environment for seniors living with dementia. This centre will provide crucial relief to families and help affected seniors maintain their dignity and quality of life.

How You Can Help:

By supporting this cause, you are not only cheering me to run at the Tata Mumbai Marathon but are also contributing to a cause close to my heart. Your support is sure to have a lasting impact, touching countless lives over the years. Every contribution, no matter how small or big, will bring me closer to opening the doors of this much-needed facility soon.

Here’s how you can contribute:

1. Donate: Any amount can make a difference.
2. Spread the Word: Share this appeal with your network.
3. Join Us: Start your own fundraiser to support Dignity Foundation and become a part of the movement for better dementia care in Mumbai.

Together, we can build a stronger and more compassionate support system for seniors with dementia in Mumbai. Enable my run to create a future in which no elderly person with Dementia is left without access to quality care.

Thank you for your generosity and support!
