Hello, I'm Shanu Shaikh a TLL(Lung Cancer) survivor. I will be running the Tata Mumbai Marathon Dream Run to raise funds to support children with cancer for CanKids KidsCan, The National Society For Change For Childhood Cancer In India. And need your help to achieve the same.
My life's narrative took an unexpected turn when, at the tender age of 13, I was diagnosed with a mysterious lung problem. Initially, the doctors suspected tuberculosis and commenced treatment. Little did they know that a more formidable adversary lurked within me “ TLL Cancer. Confusion and fear gripped me as the symptoms worsened. Bleeding from my nose and mouth became apersistent issue, and I, once a lively teenager, found myself unable to walk. In my darkest moments, I contemplated whether facing death might be easier than enduring the relentless pain.
Seeking answers and a glimmer of hope, I headed to a nearby hospital. A biopsy was conducted, revealing the harsh truth “ cancer had invaded my body. Determined not to succumb to despair, I embarked on a journey to TATA hospital, renowned for its expertise in battling cancer. The diagnosis was grim “ TLL Cancer, a formidable opponent that required a fierce and relentless fight.
Armed with determination and supported by my loved ones, I began a grueling regimen of 26 cycles of chemotherapy. Each session was a battle, testing not only my physical strength but also my mentalresilience. Radiation followed, with 72 sessions that felt like an eternity. Yet, I faced each one with unwavering courage, fueled by the desire to see another day and live a life free from the shackles of illness. As time went on, my resilience bore fruit. The treatments began to show positive results, and the once feeble teenager began to regain strength. My spirit, which had been dimmed by the shadows of illness, started to shine brightly.
Currently, I am working for CanKids as a Treatment Support Coordinator, channeling my experiences into supporting others on their cancer journeys. Additionally, I am a proud member of the survivor group KCK, where I engage in advocacy and spread awareness about the curability of childhood cancer.
My story became an inspiration to many, a tale of triumph over adversity, love conquering all, and the indomitable strength of the human spirit. Through the storms of illness, I emerged victorious, proving that even in the darkest moments, there is a flicker of hope waiting to ignite the flame of life once more.
I am proud to share that I am participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM)Â in the dream run category with 19 other cancer survivors, like me and our goal extends beyond personal achievements. We are dedicated to raising funds to support children fighting cancer, and this year, I have set a target of a 31000 Rs.
I am reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues, urging them to contribute whatever they can to this cause. Every contribution, no matter how small, will play a crucial role in saving the lives of children battling cancer. Your support is not just a donation it's a step towards saving a child's life.
Join me in this journey, contribute to the cause, and let's collectively work towards a world where quality healthcare is accessible to brave young souls fighting cancer. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those in need. Thank you for your support!
