About Me
The Urban Health Resource Centre (UHRC) works with slum communities to educate them on various health issues and government services, aiming to empower them to demand better health services. UHRC focuses not only on improving health outcomes but also on building human capacity, particularly among women and children in slums. Social facilitators help strengthen confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to demand rights. The program also includes teaching communities how to negotiate with officials for entitlements through community requests and petitions. The emphasis is on evidence-based negotiation and demonstrating practical actions. These skills benefit over 220,000 vulnerable people in Indore, Agra and Northeast Delhi, enabling them to access essential services, vocational skills. The positive impacts of these efforts often extend beyond the UHRC program area, benefiting communities beyond the initial target area.
Appeal
I utilise my social work experience and understanding of human life to improve lives of of urban deprived labour at low wages to build 'smart cities'. Learning from disadvantaged communities it is clear that broader determinants of health & well-being need efforts to help those less fortunate than us. UHRC, set-up in 2005 received support from a bilateral source till mid-2009 and was left for us to sustain or shut aspirations of a large number of disadvantaged people. Since then UHRC raises funds to deepen confidence, self-reliance through building non-perishable competence of women's & children-youth groups in 220,000 vulnerable populations
