About Me
While I have been in corporate life for over 30 years, since early days I have been an avid follower of sports. The pride of a sports person playing for the country is different. India's performance at the Olympics and other international sports events has improved significantly in recent times. Apart from active support of the Government, a few organisations have also helped build this movement.
GoSports is one such organisation. Run by a passionate team, advised by legends in Indian sports, it has mentored several athletes who have brought glory to the nation. Of note, is their support to the para athletes. Supporting these athletes who play selflessly for the country is my small contribution in the area of my interest.
Appeal
The GoSports Foundation, winner of Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award this year, is a non profit trust established in 2008, working towards providing career support, funding and access to sports science expertise to India's top sporting talents.
Their selection mechanism has enabled them to identify and support more than 100 top athletes, across multiple Olympic and non Olympic disciplines. They are joined by Abhinav Bindra, Rahul Dravid and Pullela Gopichand on their Board of Advisors. Former physiotherapist of the Indian Cricket Team John Gloster is Head of Sports Science.
The Athlete scholarship & mentoring programmes includes Para champion™s programme. That is something I fully support and is very close to my heart. The programme was constituted to bring vision, structure and planning to Indian Paralympic movement. The long term vision of the programme is to raise awareness of prevalent disability conditions in society and change general perceptions towards differently abled individuals.
These athletes need all encouragement to excel in their chosen field. A large number of Indian para athletes who have done well on the international arena, have been supported by GoSports. Devendra Jhajharia, Varun Bhati, Amit Siroha, Pramod Bhagat, Manoj Sarkar to name a few.
The passion of the team and the can do spirit of the athletes who are out to bring glory for the country is commendable. A contribution to their cause can help them realise that the country is behind them.
